Sleeping Beauty

On 15th November Kaustubha Ballet is organising in its premises a video screening of Sleeping Beauty, the full ballet originally chorographed by M.Petipa for the Mariinskij Theatre in 1890.
The same ballet  was presented years later by the Ballets Russes in a short version called "The Sleeping Princess" at the Alhambra Theatre, London. Djagilev, the famous impresario, directed the ballet sourrounding himself with Leon Bakst as costume designer, Nicolaj Sergeev as choreographer, who had with him all the notes of the first version written in a system called "Stepanov". Nowdays it is still used to try to rediscover the original steps. From that time till today this ballet has become extremely popular all over the world. Recently a new version has been presented in Milan at Teatro alla Scala, based on those notes and with costumes inspired by L. Bakst's sketchings, choreography by Alexei Ratmansky.
