Remembering Cecchetti

Maestro Cecchetti (1850/1928) teaching a student with a stick.

In those days he could not touch her body therefore with the help of a stick he could place her arms in the right position and even help the dancer to move correctly. Cecchetti was an Italian dancer who travelled to Russia  where he became very famous for the "Blue Bird",  a variation from Sleeping Beauty. When he stopped dancing he began a very brilliant carrier as a ballet teacher and later moved to London where his method was codified. Eventually he went to Milan to teach  at "Teatro alla Scala".
